Samuel Harrison (1684-1776), the eldest son of Mary Ward (d.1738) and Samuel Harrison (1645-1724), was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1684. George Smock, the son of John Smock (b. 1727) and Elizabeth Conover (fl. 1740-1754) was born November 24, 1754. He grew up in Middletown Township, Monmouth County, and in 1776 enlisted in the Continental Army.
